Meet Dr. Deborah
Dr. Deborah Davis Jones brings more than forty-nine years of experience in education, ministry, and leadership. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Wayne State University and her Doctorate of Education in Administration from the American University of Biblical Studies in Decatur, Georgia. She also completed postdoctoral coursework in school finance, human resources, and school law at UNLV, as well as post-graduate training in vocational education at Georgia State University. In addition, she was a Danforth Foundation Administrative Leadership Team Fellow.
Deborah began her career in Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent sixteen years in the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) as a teacher and vocational program coordinator. Her dedication to academically and economically disadvantaged students earned her the district-wide recognition of Teacher of the Year. She went on to serve in the Superintendent’s Office as Teacher Ombudsman, where she organized the first Teacher of the Year Academy, published a teacher magazine and resource guide, and became a vital liaison between teachers and administration. She later consulted for the APS Parenting Center, providing training for parents and schools. As Principal of Faith Academy (now New Birth Academy) in suburban Atlanta, Deborah oversaw the establishment of the private elementary school, including building renovations, curriculum development, HR policies, and staff hiring. She also served as Vice President of Administration at the American University of Biblical Studies, worked as an Instructional Designer, and consulted independently in education.
Deborah spent eleven years in the Clark County School District (CCSD), bringing with her more than two decades of educational and training experience from Georgia and Michigan. She began as a Fashion and Child Development teacher at Clark High School before moving to Cannon Jr. High School, where she chaired the Social Studies Department and taught U.S. History and Geography. In 2003, she was promoted to Dean of Students at James Cashman Middle School, where one of her proudest accomplishments was founding the Ladies of Distinction, a group of girls from rival gangs who transformed into positive leaders through mentorship and community service. Later, she became Assistant Principal at Jim Bridger Middle School in 2005, where she secured resources and built partnerships with corporations such as SAP, Price Waterhouse, and Bechtel. In 2008, her expertise in facilities led to her assignment at Martin Middle School to support the opening of its replacement campus. There, she supervised facilities, Special Education, English, Reading, the master calendar, student activities, special events, and community relations.
Beyond administration, Deborah is a sought-after trainer and presenter. She has delivered workshops on Planning, Organizing, and Implementing Your Healthy Hearts Program (Cooperative Extension, UNR), classroom management for children in poverty, values integration, time and stress management, teaching models, and communication skills. She developed the model for infusing state-mandated Character Education into the secondary curriculum for APS and has presented on vocational education at the Southern Governors Conference. She has taught Employability Skills to adults, Microsoft Office at Dekalb Technical Institute, and served as a trainer for Atlanta University, Comerica Bank in Detroit, and other organizations.
Her commitment to excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including Atlanta Public Schools Teacher of the Year, the Shell Oil/NCNW Regional Excellence in Teaching Award, the Southern Education Foundation Minority Role Model in Education Award, and the Outstanding Kappa/Metro Atlanta Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. She is also listed in Who’s Who in American Education.
In addition to her professional achievements, Deborah is an ordained minister who has faithfully served in various ministries as an Assistant to the Pastor, speaker, and Pre-Marital Counselor. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. Above all, she cherishes her role as the mother of one son.
